“I make pictures that capture the atmosphere and vibration of my surroundings, with a particular interest in the intersection of nature and architecture”

Kim Flora is known for richly layered collaged encaustic (wax) images and moody alla prima oil paintings.

Born in Baltimore Maryland in 1982, Flora is currently based in Cincinnati Ohio, where she maintains a studio practice in the city’s West End arts district.

Kim earned a Bachelor of Fine Art in Fine Art from the Art Academy of Cincinnati focusing on painting and art history. These Interests have led to a two-decade career at the Cincinnati Art Museum where she currently serves as the museum’s Head of Installation.

Kim has exhibited at Wright State University, The University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, Manifest Gallery and The Carnegie Arts Center. She was awarded a studio residency in Munich, Germany at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste München in 2005 and a City of Cincinnati Individual Artist Grant in 2008. Flora's work can be found in private and public collections, including Baltimore County Public Schools, Tente International, the Horseshoe Casino Group and the Cincinnati Art Museum.
